Revised Child Support Training Schedule 2021
Although we had hoped to offer some face-to-face classroom training in 2021, that is not possible. As a result, all classes on the previous schedule that had been listed as face-to-face (F2F) are now offered via distance/Zoom. The entire 2021 training schedule is now available. The revised schedule is attached and classes are available in the Learning Center.

KIDS “E” Region Refresh Dates
The Training Region of KIDS, known as the “E” Region of KIDS – CICSE330, refreshes periodically to allow students a fresh opportunity to work cases and practice using KIDS, without affecting any production cases. When the “E” region refreshes, it erases casework done since the last refresh.

A refresh is scheduled for the following dates in 2020:

  • April 11, 2021
  • July 11, 2021

Training Tips

Get the Most from Your Distance Learning

Many courses offered through the Learning Center are distance learning, and often are prerequisites for an upcoming face-to-face class you will be attending. A few tips for getting the most out of the courses you complete:

  1. Plan Your Time - Set aside 1-2 hours to focus only on your training.
  2. Minimize Distractions - To boost concentration, turn off your e-mail and your phone, as well as any other programs running on your computer that could capture your attention and distract you from your learning.
  3. Tell Everyone - Let your co-workers know you are completing a training course and you would prefer not to be interrupted during that time. Interruptions get your thought processes off track, and it takes extra time to get your mindset back to where you left off.
  4. Evaluate Your Own Progress - Re-read the course objectives to see how you are progressing, and evaluate whether you can do the things the objectives state you will be able to do upon completion of the course.
  5. Be Aware of Your Materials - Distance learning courses may have many different materials. Remember, you are not just watching or listening. You are learning from those materials. Refer to both the training resources and the other resources (e.g., Fact Sheets, Manuals), and take notes.

OCSE Domestic Violence Training
An estimated 4 out of 10 custodial parents in the child support program have experienced domestic violence with the other parent on their case. One of the primary reasons that victims either stay with their abuser or return to their abuser after leaving is the lack of financial resources to live independently.

When victims do not know what protections are available to them in the child support process, victims go without critical financial support. Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence can help child support professionals understand customers, lead to improved case processing, and increase safety for parents and staff.
